M. R. Govt. College

M.R.Govt College, Fazilka is a reputed co-educational institution of higher education in Punjab. The college was established in 1940 by Lala Munshi Ram Trust in the memory of Late Sh. Munshi Ram. Since its inception, it has been serving the border belt and backward area of Malwa Region of Punjab. The journey of this college never remained smooth. In 1970, it was at its peak. But since then it started becoming sick due to financial crisis. The management of this college, ultimately handed over the college to Punjab Government in June 1983. it was a new lease of life to the college. The college started coming back on its wheels again. In 1987-88, a new block was constructed with six spacious rooms which met the need of rising number of student strength. Subsequently in 1992, staff quarters with 2 sets for lecturers, one for principal and 3 sets for class IV, were constructed. In 1993, commerce was introduced as new faculty. In November 2003, a new canteen was constructed to meet the demands of the students. In session 2006-07, old hostel building was demolished and a computer lab, girls common room and two lecture theatres were constructed.

Thus, this oldest institution of the region has contributed to the all round development of this area. It has been instrumental in furthering the cause of education. The college has produced doctors, engineers, lawyers and teachers in hundreds who are serving nation in different parts of India.
