In the common Election of 2007, Surjit Kumar Jyani, a great personality from the side of Bhartiya Janta Party won by 16000 votes. Surjit Kumar Jyani was born in

village 'Kathera' in Fazilka Tehsil in the family of Shopat Ram Jyani and mother Kalawati on 23rd August 1956. He studied his Primary and high education in Kathers

itself. He has adopted Agriculture as his profession.
In his young age, he has been married on the advice of his father Shopat Rai Jyani with the daughter of a landlord Mr. Sultan Jhurad and Mrs. Kamla Jhurad on 11th

March 1978. He has two sons named Navdeep & Jagdeep.
In the year 1990, when the 'Loksabha' electios were near and BJP is in the need of a candidate for Ferozepur Constituency, he raised his hands for this election. As

there is no one to contest the election because os terrorism, he offered himself as a candidate for it. But later on the election was postponed ans was held in 1991, in

which they failed to win the election. He has been appointed as District President of BJP.
In the Vidhan Sabha Election of year 1997, the party put forward Surjit Kumar Jyani for the Election and with the result he paid rich victory to BJP.He has been

appointed Panchayati Raj minister in the year 1997 and later in 1997 he has been promoted to the rank of cabinet minister with Forest Department. After a defeat in

the year 2002 election, he got a wonderful victory for BJP in 2007.
